We are delighted to announce that the Llandeilo Literature Festival 2022 will be bringing an exciting line-up of live events and workshops to your doorstep this April. We will be featuring a broad range of authors, showcasing emerging local talent alongside accomplished Welsh authors and shining a light on the wealth of literary talent that is produced in Wales and promoting our cultural diversity. As well as events in local venues, we hope to include an online program that will reach a wider audience in the comfort of their own home anywhere in the world.Last year Llandeilo was listed by the Sunday Times as one of the best places to live in Wales. This year’s Literature Festival is an opportunity to place Llandeilo firmly on the Nation’s cultural calendar, remind visitors that we are a “sophisticated shopping destination and a great showcase for local arts and crafts and give the whole town a reason to celebrate and be proud. The festival will run for one weekend with over 20 live events 22 – 24 of April in the heart of town. In 2019 we had over 1000 attendances during the festival, many visitors came and stayed in town and experienced our local food, pubs, accommodation and shops. To raise enough funds to make it an event worthy of Llandeilo with its fantastic festival reputation we’re looking for sponsors and volunteers. Your support would help enormously to put us back on a solid footing and show the world that Llandeilo is a vibrant town with a big heart and a big appetite for hosting cultural events and welcoming visitors.

Diolch yn fawr

Diolch yn fawr – ‘Y Gelli heb y torfeydd a’r gyfalafiaeth!’

Er i ni dorri’r nifer o ddigwyddiadau o 51 i 36 eleni bu bron i ni werthu cymaint o docynnau a llynedd. Ar gyfartaledd roedd y sesiynau tua 20% yn brysurach na’r flwyddyn flaenorol; dyma’r tro cyntaf i ni orfod gwrthod mynediad gan fod y seddi’n llawn. Digwyddodd hyn mewn dwy sesiwn a bu rhaid i bobl aros yn y cefn mewn nifer o sesiynau. Gwerthwyd 25% mwy o docynnau ar-lein gyda nifer helaeth o bobl newydd yn ogystal â nifer sylweddol yn dychwelyd am yr ail neu drydydd tro. Dywed y busnesau fod cyffro o gwmpas y dref a niferoedd uchel o ymwelwyr, yn enwedig ar y dydd Sadwrn.

Derbyniwyd dros 200 o ffurflenni adborth sydd eto i’w dadansoddi ond maent yn ymddangos yn ffafriol iawn ac yn awgrymu fod mwy o ymwelwyr i’r dref a bod llawer wedi clywed am yr ŵyl drwy bobl eraill. Efallai bod ennill Gwobr Diwylliant Sir Gâr wedi  helpu yn hyn o beth.

Dymuna’r trefnyddion ddiolch i’r

Siaradwyr ymroddgar a thalentog am sicrhau fod eu cynulleidfaoedd wedi eu bodloni.

Diolch i’r prif noddwyr, Menter Bro Dinefwr, Bwrdeisiol, Cyngor Sir Gâr a Chyngor Tref Llandeilo Fawr. Diolch hefyd i fusnesau Llandeilo a’n byddin o wirfoddolwyr arbennig.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the festival.
The festival once again proved a great success, despite storms and rain. Although we reduced our number of sessions from 51 to 36 we managed to hit the 1000 ticket mark again, with sessions on average a good 20% busier than the year before. This is the first year we had to turn people away for two sessions and had standing room only for several.
The online ticket site registered 25% more customers with high numbers both for new and returning ticket buyers.
Many of you reported a buzz around town, busy streets and an increased footfall, particularly on Saturday.
200 feedback forms were returned and gave us great feedback, overwhelmingly good we’re pleased to say. The forms also indicate a higher number of visitors to town and word of mouth as source for hearing about us.
Maybe winning the Carmarthenshire Celebration of Culture Award has helped us to get the word of mouth but the festival would like to thank the very talented and committed speakers who ensured people walk away content.
The festival committee would like to thank all authors, speakers, our main sponsors Menter Bro Dinefwr, Birdshill, Carmarthenshire County Council and Llandeilo Fawr Town Council, the Llandeilo businesses and our army of superb volunteers.
Quote of the festival by a happy author for the press release – Hay without the crowds & capitalism!

See you next year, last weekend of April 22 – 25!

Delyth Jenkins: That Would Be Telyn – Walking the Pembrokeshire Coast with my Harp
(replacing O’r Pedwar Gwynt)

In the summer of 2012 Delyth Jenkins walked the 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. She carried a small harp with her, with the intention of giving a series of impromptu path-side concerts. Structured around the 17 days of the walk, this book is an account of her adventures and the people she met and played for along the way.
She’ll talk about her journey, the book and she’ll bring her ‘arp!
